Governance of Indian Central Universities

Governance structure / mechanism is pivotal to successful functioning of Higher Education institutions. Governance is the process through which an organization controls its activities. In case of a University the students teachers and employees being a homogeneous community the governance mechanism ensures observance of established procedures and policies by the constituents in letter and spirit. In India Central Universities established by an Act of the Parliament have a set of governance structure. The authors with their long experience in Indian universities have observed that there are no uniformity and consistency in the various aspects of the governance mechanism and felt the need to have model governance structure for better functioning of Indian Central Universities in the 21st Century. Through a comparative study of the various provisions of Acts and Statues of three Central Universities this book emphasizes the need for a detailed study of all organs of the governance to evolve a model Governance Structure common for all the Central Universities in India. This book will inspire all stakeholders of Educational Administration of Higher Education in India.
