Within weeks of the bombing at Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941 the military began aclandestine recruitment of intelligent brave and loyal women. They were quickly andmeticulously trained to take over a vital and top-secret program that would beinstrumental in winning the war. They became known as the Women's Air Raid Defense(WARD).Grace Hudlow (Gracie) was just sixteen years old when World War ll upturned life inAmerica. She struggled to understand the devastating loss of life. The day before hereighteenth birthday her fiancé became a casualty of the war. Not one to sit on thesidelines Gracie packed up her adventurous spirit and heart for service. She lefteverything behind and boarded a Liberty ship to join an elite group of women serving onthe island of Oahu in a covert underground tunnel code-named-LIZARD.
