About The Book

Maria Dora Stefenson comes to America at the age of three leaving behind her beloved Grandfather and Sweden. Settling and adapting to this new country is a bit of a challenge at first. Hopes of a prosperous life for her father quickly diminish after his partner embezzles funds. His next job in construction ends his ability to ever truly work again when he falls three stories onto a wheel barrel full of bricks. Maria the oldest feels it is her responsibility to support the family. She obtains several jobs before finding her way to the stage and vaudeville. After much dedication she becomes very successful as a mimic/comedienne. Her one woman show dazzles audiences as she portrays a farmer known as The Rube Girl. She takes the stage name of Mary Dorr and travel's around the world making many new friends and meeting some very famous people such as Charlie Chaplin and Houdini. Some of her adventures can be quiet entertaining especially when she runs into a bit of trouble with the police at a Chicago train station.
