From Cape Hamlet South Africa through the Kalahari Desert and farther west to the coastal town of Loanda Livingstone travelled more than 4000 miles on foot. His journey came to an end in Mozambique as he headed east and followed the Zambesi River. In 1856 he arrived at Quelimane in Portuguese East Africa (now Mozambique) on the east coast. Native Life in South Africa Before and After the European War and the Boer Rebellion was written by Solomon Plaatje (1876–1922) as a protest against the Natives Land Act of 1913 which forbade natives from purchasing or renting land. His appeals were unsuccessful despite the strong justifications offered in this book; the Act later became one of the foundational elements of the Apartheid system. Sieben Jahre in Süd-Afrika. Erster Band (German) - Bereits mit 25 Jahren ging der aus Böhmen stammende Holub das erste Mal nach Afrika.
