<p>I did the unthinkable and rejected the only woman who ever really wanted me. What else was I supposed to do when she was asking for a future that could never exist? Horsemen didn't have souls. And if a future did exist for our kind it was bathed in blood and unholy fire. Hardly the stuff dreams were made of.</p><p></p><p>Merri deserved more than nightmares. I thought I was saving her from such a fate instead I'd unwittingly sent her flying into the arms of the one being I was supposed to protect her from. My wildflower was in Lucifer's clutches and we had no idea how to get her back.</p><p></p><p>My brothers blamed me for her absence and rightfully so. I'd broken her heart as well as theirs in the process. The only way we'd stand a chance at bringing her home where she belonged was for the four of us to stand together and ride to her rescue.</p><p></p><p>Lilith chose us to be her protectors.</p><p></p><p>Chaos protected her body.</p><p>Sin protected her heart.</p><p>Malice protected her mind.</p><p>And I did all I could to protect her soul from anything that might harm it including myself.</p><p></p><p>But we couldn't carry out our mission without her. With the apocalypse looming ever closer it was time for the four horsemen to do the impossible and use our considerable power for good. </p><p></p><p>Otherwise all of this pain and heartbreak was for nothing and no one would ever get a chance at a happily ever after again.</p><p></p>
