The red mushroom shown is a non-edible hallucinogenic mushroom which must be avoided. Mushrooms today have become a house-hold item of food-delicacy as well as a panacea of good healthy life. Presently more than 100 countries all over the world are producers / consumers of this health-food. As a result mushroom farming has achieved the status of a high value cash crop with global trade worth more than 2 billion US$ per annum. Although mushrooms are considered as a low volume high cost product yet as per present estimate the world production of only five edible mushroom species has reached the figure of 27 billion kg during 2012 (Royse 2014). Obviously the quantity will further increase if species grown for their medicinal qualities as well as those edible species restricted to some localized areas are also taken into account.
