Growth Factors: Key to Periodontal Regeneration
English

About The Book

Periodontal surgical procedures are carried out to arrest the disease progression and facilitate regeneration. The latest among regenerative procedures are use of growth factors alone or in combination with various graft materials. The combination of growth factors being preferred as it stimulates the formation of mineralised tissue whereas the other one the non-mineralised tissues with both of them acting synergistically. Growth factors also considered as biological modifiers are group of naturally occurring polypeptides involved in variety of cell -to -cell and cell - matrix interactions involved during wound healing and during normal health state. They promote cell migration attachment and subsequent spreading of cells cell proliferation differentiation and matrix synthesis. Invitro and animal studies have shown promising results further human trials are carried out to achieve satisfactory outcomes. Clinically high cost and technique sensitivity becomes the challenge for common usage in general practice.
