Gulf of Guinea

About The Book

The marine and coastal environment of the Gulf of Guinea Africa's leading oil-producing region faces a number of problems including pollution from offshore oil rigs. These activities have major negative consequences for biodiversity and the production of fish for human consumption and other uses. This book looks at these interrelated issues through the study of key international treaties and conventions as well as national laws governing the protection and management of natural resources in the Gulf of Guinea which remain plural and inadequate. As far as offshore oil exploitation is concerned the normative corpus needs to be improved in order to create a global governance framework capable of articulating regional rules with those of the order of member states to develop relevant and effective actions.
