The novel is divided into four parts each detailing the adventures of Lemuel Gulliver the protagonist in different fictional lands: Lilliput: In this part Gulliver finds himself in a land inhabited by tiny people the Lilliputians. He is a giant among them and the story explores themes of power politics and human nature through the absurd situations that arise. Brobdingnag: Gulliver''s next journey takes him to Brobdingnag a land of giants where he is the tiny one. Here he faces the challenges of being a miniature man in a world of enormous creatures. Laputa Balnibarbi Luggnagg Glubbdubdrib and Japan: This section of the book describes Gulliver''s visit to several strange and satirical lands each with its own peculiarities and social commentary. Laputa for example is a floating island inhabited by impractical intellectuals. Houyhnhnms and Yahoos: In the final part Gulliver arrives on the island of the Houyhnhnms a race of rational and horse-like beings and the Yahoos brutish human-like creatures.
