Happy Jack by Thornton W. Burgess is a charming tale set in the Green Forest focusing on the adventures and misadventures of Happy Jack Squirrel. In a desperate attempt to escape Happy Jack finds an unexpected ally in Farmer Brown's boy who along with Tommy Tit the Chickadee helps him evade danger. This encounter marks the beginning of a friendship between Happy Jack and Farmer Brown's boy teaching Happy Jack the power of trust and kindness. Throughout the story Burgess weaves themes of thrift loyalty and the consequences of selfishness all while maintaining a light-hearted and engaging tone.
