About The Book

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Komparatistik Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft Note: 13 Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck Sprache: Deutsch Abstract: The presented study compares two different german translations of William Shakespeares The Merchant of Venice with the strongly ambivalent figure of Shylock the Jew in focal point. The aim of this paper is to investigate how the characterization of Shylock changes between the translation of August Wilhelm Schlegel in the ceasing 18th century and the one of Erich Fried in 1986 therefore between pre- and post-knowledge of the holocaust.
