Hath not a gentle Jew eyes?

The aim of this paper is to investigate how the characterization of Shylock changes between the translation of August Wilhelm Schlegel in the ceasing 18th century and the one of Erich Fried in 1986 therefore between pre- and post-knowledge of the holocaust.
