Recent studies have shown that although the symptomatology does not become apparent until four weeks after childbirth this mood disorder begins to occur during pregnancy; it is called peripartum depression. This is why early detection is the responsibility of primary care health professionals since they are the ones who will establish a close therapeutic relationship with pregnant women and their families.
