English

About The Book

A retrospective study including patients with chronic viral hepatitis B who had undergone liver biopsy. Results: A total of 96 patients with chronic viral hepatitis B investigated by liver biopsy were included ranging in age from 18 to 61 years with a mean age of 32.7±10.7 years. Male predominance was noted with a sex ratio of 1.46. The number of patients with histologically confirmed steatosis was 19 or 27.5% of the general population. BMI was significantly different between the two groups in our study (p=0.007); overweight patients were more likely to develop steatosis during chronic B infections. Hemoglobin levels were statistically significant between the two groups with p<0.001. Multivariate analysis revealed an OR of 2.447 and IC95% [1.326-4.514] for hemoglobin while HBeAg positivity differed significantly between the two groups with an OR of 5.595 [1.186- 26.383]. The group of patients with hepatic steatosis was comparable to that of patients without steatosis.
