Heroines of the French Epic

Six translations of chansons de geste in which women play a large part often as the central figure most of which have never previously been translated into English. They are important evidence for the changing attitudes to women during the twelfth and early thirteenth century and are a prologue to the emergence of the courtly romances at the end of this period.
