Heterosis and Combining Ability in Okra

A field experiment was carried out to study the heterosis for yield and quality in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench).The experimental material comprised of 8 parents 28 hybrids produced through half-diallel and MH-64 as standard check. The data were obtained for seventeen characters including pod yield and its components. The crosses VRO 6 × Arka Abhay VRO 6 × AOL 10-8 and Parbhani Kranti × Arka Abhay showed significant and desirable heterosis for pod yield per plant over standard check. Among 8 parents two parents viz. AOL 10-8 and Arka Abhay were observed as good general combiners
