Hippolytus

This is an English translation of Euripides' tragedy Hippolytus which tells the story of Phaedra fighting her desire for Hippolytus in vain as he puts his life in danger to conceal her affection. The classic theme of a married woman who develops feelings for a younger man was altered and combined by Euripides with a tale of divine wrath to produce a masterpiece of suspense anguish and dramatic impact. In this drama Phaedra bravely battles her desire for her stepson Hippolytus but is ultimately unsuccessful and the young man puts his life in danger to conceal his love for her.
