About The Book

With the interest of getting to know and recognize Bardhhaman I have been wandering around the villages and towns in different parts of the district for almost four decades with my own hobbies and job obligations. During my tenure as a system manager I had to visit various village and city branches in different districts to correct technical errors update software or provide training at the branch. During this trip I tried to know and recognize that place. I have tried to highlight part of what I have learned through this book. My experience and consciousness have inspired me in compiling this book. I am fascinated by the craftsmanship centered on temples mosques churches etc. The important sights of the district have drawn me there again and again. So it seems to me that many places in the Burdwan district must be subject to tourist attractions. They must be considered for historical importance or for natural beauty aesthetic reasons. In the book I have tried to give a brief but comprehensive introduction to the place history and subject. In each case I have added images. Marathas armed force from Nagpur under Bhaskar Pandit had gone into Bengal in 1740. Around then Alivardi Khan was the Nawab (Governor) of Bengal-Bihar-Orissa. He set out for Orissa to curb Shuja-ud-noise appointee legislative head of Orissa and on his arrival venture from Cuttack; he withdrew to Barddhaman in April 1742 where the Marathas encompassed him.
