History of the 159th Regiment New York State Volunteers (NYSV) is a detailed account of the service and experiences of the 159th Regiment during the American Civil War. This regiment also known as the Second Erie Regiment was formed in the summer of 1862 in response to President Lincoln's call for additional troops to fight in the ongoing conflict. The regiment primarily consisted of men from Western New York including many from Buffalo and the surrounding areas.Edward Duffy the author of the history served as a member of the regiment and draws from his own experiences as well as those of fellow soldiers to document their time in service. The book offers a chronological narrative of the regiment's activities from its initial formation and training to its participation in major battles and campaigns throughout the war.
