Because of this he was detained as a legal citizen of the Czech Republic (what was then the Austria-Hungarian Empire when he first left). He would eventually escape make his way back to America as a stowaway but be detained again without papers at Ellis Island. When detained he was to be sent back to Europe to be shot as a deserter. Now only last-minute interventions could save him!</span></p><p><span style=color: rgba(15 17 17 1)> </span><span style=color: rgba(15 17 17 1); background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1)>Several miraculous events assisted him during his ordeal and afterward.</span></p><p></p><p><strong style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1); color: rgba(45 45 45 1)>About the author</strong></p><p><span style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1); color: rgba(55 62 62 1)>Robert Keprta is a native born Texan born on July 29 1943. After completing High School he joined the military service enlisting in the US Army for paratrooper duty. He served a total of five years nine months and thirteen days on active duty His last duty assignment was with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam where he earned a Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge among other decorations. Prior to that he completed Pathfinder Training and the USMC Amphibious Recon training and was a cadre Platoon Sgt for the Advanced Combat Training Academy (Imjin Scouts) in Korea.</span></p><p></p>
