The book is a travelogue of his journey from Whydah a port city in present-day Benin through the Kingdom of Dahomey (now known as the Republic of Benin) to Adofoodia a region in the interior of present-day Togo.Throughout the book Duncan provides detailed descriptions of the places he visited and the people he met including the local customs traditions and beliefs.
