Kina and her siblings were eventually rescued by the Division of Youth and Family Services also known as DYFS. They were dispersed amongst family members with Kina going to live with Auntie Buela who came with her own set of family and relationship problems that ultimately shaped Kinas life views. She learned independence how to stand on her own and eventually smile. It was the reality and shame of having a homeless garbage picking babbling schizophrenic mother that drove Kina into a downward spiral at a young age. But with perseverance and the grace of God she learns to prevail overcome and eventually take care of her siblings and save her mother from her homeless existence making her the hero of her own story. Drug abuse led homelessness is an epidemic that needs to be aggressively addressed world-wide.
