Homer's Illiad

Three thousand years after it was written Homers iliad remains one of the most popular and widely read stories. The poem narrates the events during the final years of the war between the Trojans and the Greeks at Troy. its huge cast of characters includes human and heavenly beings who are judged by their bravery on the battlefield. At the same time the poet bemoans the futility of war. In the Iliad even the mightiest of warriors fear in the face of death.
