About The Book

Honest Dogs: A Story of Triumph and Regret From the Worlds Greatest Sled Dog Race is a book about facing insurmountable challenges and emerging triumphant. It is about the victory of the human spirit when faced with the extreme conditions in one of the worlds toughest race the Yukon Quest.Honest Dogs: A Story of Triumph and Regret From the Worlds Greatest Sled Dog Race is the story of Brian Patrick ODonoghue. He had taken part in a similar event six years prior to this race the Iditarod race. He was able to finish the race but came in last. 6 year later the yearning to take part in a dog sled race came upon him again. At the age of 41 the author decides to enter a team into the Yukon Quest a course which stretches over a thousand miles and is a more trying race than than the Iditarod. The race starts at Whitehorse in Yukon Territory and ends in Fairbanks Alaska. It is the inhospitable conditions that come in between the two places that really tests character and comradeship. With his style of writing that consists of a mix of dry humour and wit he seeks to explain the adventure he experienced.Honest Dogs: A Story of Triumph and Regret From the Worlds Greatest Sled Dog Race explains how his hopes of finishing as a contender gradually diminish as the strategies he employs backfire. He describes the touching relationship he shares with his dogs Hobbes Khan Cyclone Scrimshaw and ten other Alaskan huskies as they move towards the finish line. He speaks of his fellow racers and resident bushrats. The author gives us a glimpse of how gruelling the Yukon Quest actually is. Honest Dogs: A Story of Triumph and Regret From the Worlds Greatest Sled Dog Race was published by Epicenter Press in 1999. It is written in English and is available in paperback. It is the first edition.
