HOST MODULATION IN PERIODONTAL THERAPY

By altering host response variables host modulation therapy (HMT) lessens tissue destruction and stabilizes or even regenerates inflammatory tissue. It has been used for many years to treat arthritis and osteoporosis. However there have only been recent reports of its application in dentistry. This book highlights on rationale advantages disadvantages and limitations of currently available host modulation therapeutic agents in management of periodontal disease and ongoing development of safe and effective pharmacotherapies that specially target host response mechanism.
