About The Book

Human Rights and Migration outlines the interplay between human rights and migration regimes in the wider context of trafficking for forced labour. It combines rigorous analysis with country studies from across Europe. The book is divided into three parts which cover migration labour and human rights approaches. The contributors argue that complex and restrictive migration regimes exacerbate the channeling of migrants into risk groups for trafficking and that some types of exploitation in the field of trafficking are clearly linked to migration itself. They investigate the role of the state in creating the circumstances of trafficking and other violations of migrant rights. Moreover this innovative volume shows that the current understanding of trafficking excludes large groups of people who due to their migration status experience human rights violations on a continuum of exploitation ranging from forced labour to minor detractions from labour standards.
