This is the output of post-doctoral fellow research undertaken at the University of Mauritius under 5th UGC-TEC Consortium Agreement 2011-12. This book has made attempt to analyse electoral trends of Mauritius and India in particular to the context of free and fair elections and human right perspectives. And also targeted to explore how far electorates of both the countries have enjoyed or exercised their franchise justifiably. This book also encompassed the significance of election in the liberal democracy / modern democracy vis a vis how it corresponds with human rights electoral rights and its challenges. Electioneering laws and relevant acts of all the democratic countries are to provide free and fair elections. In fact the main part of this study is to insight the contemporary electoral trends in which how the electorates participated to democratic elections. This analysis can help to understand the status of elections in the sense that analysis is based on the structured questionnaire from Mauritius and India. The present book is typically different from other electoral study since it emphasized on the issue of human rights on the eve of elections. It has made attempt to insight the various malpractices that led to a big question of free and fair elections vis a vis the state of electoral rights. Thus the analysis concluded with findings and suggestion for upholding more free and fair election and to protect electoral rights. The book will give a comprehensive idea to the concern research scholars to come forward on the issue of electoral rights which is one of the neglected areas of study in most of the countries. Besides it will give an implication to right defenders political elites and decision makers who still consider the matter as natural occurrence and phenomena of electoral politics
