Hybridisation of Concentrating Solar Power Plants

This book evaluates the technical and economic benefits for a retrofit of a biomass power plant with Concentrating Solar Power (CSP). The study is based on Codora Energia a biomass power plant located in Brazil and it is intended to provide a practical introduction for the co-generation production with hybrid CSP-Biomass. The paper considers a boiler and a solar field able each of them to generate a power of 48 MWe. The Solar Advisor Model (SAM) has been used to determine the solar energy production on an hourly basis. In this paper the viability of this solution in Brazil is evaluated by using an empirical approach with a case study.
