Hydrodynamic Design of Ships

<p>The assessment and the optimization of the hydrodynamic performance are essential for the design of modern competitive ships serving their missions in an efficient way. Potential or viscous flow modeling is used for the numerical evaluation of ship designs to be validated using scaled model tests. Bio-memetic methods (genetic and evolutionary algorithms artificial neural networks) are mainly employed in hydrodynamic optimization. The optimization procedure accounts for the area of ship service and its mission. The papers included in this Special Issue represent the current attempt to provide a reliable estimation of the hydrodynamic performance assessment and robust optimization schemes for hull forms resulting in competitive ship designs.</p>
