The Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna at the Battle of Kurukshetra where a great battle is about to take place between two cousins the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Arjuna was reluctant to fight against his own relatives and friends and sought advice from Krishna. Krishna did not want to provoke Arjuna to war and bloodshed by this discourse of Bhagavad Gita. Krishna wanted to guide Arjuna to fulfill his duty as a warrior and uphold the principles of dharma or righteousness. Therefore the Bhagavad Gita is not an instigator of war and bloodshed but a spiritual discourse that teaches us the art of living and dying. Sri Krishna probably narrated the Gita to Arjuna for many reasons but an important reason was that Krishna wanted to reveal the supreme science of the Gita to the world through Arjuna who would serve as a role model and teacher for future generations.
