I Spend So Long Evaporating is a collection of poetry that pulls the reader into the world of vision loss and allows them to experience it through the art of metaphor and simile. The collection takes the reader through four different sections. A place of sadness and grief a longing for the way things had been or could be. The progression of vision loss goes inside a dark place where light flickers as does hope. All of this is told through the power of nature nostalgia and fear of the unknown. The poems compare different levels of light in fireflies northern lights and campfires to compare it to impending darkness. The aspect of blindness is subtle in some places and louder in others. It allows the reader to feel the emotion behind it rather than simply be told that it is a day-to-day struggle. The speaker must learn to grasp these dimmer lights these areas of fog and embrace them as a part of that inevitable fate.
