ICT contribution to hospital revenues in Kinshasa

About The Book

The issue of introducing ICT into hospital services is common to all African countries and the D.R. Congo is no exception. Stakeholders agree on the importance of ICTs but many debates arise when it comes to justifying the corresponding expenses. Investment in ICT can be an innovative solution for improving hospital revenues in the city of Kinshasa reducing medical errors and promoting increased responsiveness in health care systems. In this work we evaluated the contribution of ICT in improving the revenue of hospital services with a complete or partial integrated hospital information system allowing for electronic management of patient information. The panel econometric method is applied with the modified Cobb Douglas production function in which income (Y) is explained by two factors: labor (W) and ICT expenditures (T). The elasticity for ICT (T) is 0.075 with Adjusted R2 at 0.628 (p=0.0000). Both labor and ICT have a positive and significant contribution to hospital output.
