Chromoendoscopy provides additional diagnostic information about the morphology and pathophysiology of the digestive tract epithelium. Based on the experience gained its use has spread mainly for the identification of pre-neoplastic or neoplastic lesions. The most promising uses have been in the identification of precursor lesions and cancer of the squamous epithelium of the esophagus with Lugol's solution.
