This publication examines the impact of Westernization on contemporary African societies highlighting the tensions between modernity and the preservation of identity. Westernization often perceived as synonymous with progress leads to an erosion of cultural identities and economic dependence on Western powers. Through a critical analysis of imposed development models we highlight the need to adopt strategies that integrate the cultural and historical specificities of African societies. Drawing on case studies and testimonials from local players this study proposes a reflection on alternative development that values cultural diversity and enables African communities to play an active role in their own evolution.
