<p>The plant belongs to the genus Acmella in the family Asteraceae generally distributed in the tropics. Many members belongs to the genus were commonly called as tooth ache plant. The pungent flower heads of these plants are chewed by people as they reduce the tooth pain. Identification of individual species is very difficult in this group because phenotypically these plants are very much similar. This book provides detailed morphocharacteristics of different Acmella species present all over Kerala. Also gives basic understanding about the anatomical variations among the genera and also described basic chromosome number chromosome counts and polyploidy nature of all the reported Acmella species in Kerala in order to clarify the taxonomic ambiguities present in the genus.
