On November 1 1997 after thirty-two years of service to the NYC school system Kenneth Karcinell retired. It was time. The fact is that at age fifty-five he was in a place that most in the profession can only dream of a Talented and Gifted PreK-8 school. Although the school was located in one of Brooklyn''s high crime neighborhoods his school was relatively free from incident. He served there as Assistant Principal and as Acting Principal for the three years leading up to his retirement. During his tenure there he enjoyed a very positive relationship with pupils teachers and parents. It was just time to go!Presently he is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education Graduate Studies Department CCNY. He is also a Consultant to the Teaching Fellows Program for the NYC Board of Education. In his spare time he serves as a mentor to novice teachers in a public school in Brooklyn New York.Ken and his wife of thirty years Ellen are the proud parents of a son Joey who attends Cornell University and their recently married daughter Sarah Fried of Manhattan. Ken and Ellen reside in Hewlett New York but escape to their ''campsite'' in the White Mountains of New Hampshire whenever they can.
