Images of Women in Indian Writing in English

Indian Writing in English has by now secured its own space in World Literature. Particularly the creative angle of women writing in India has made a tremendous change enriching and strengthening the entire corpus of Indian Writing in English. Indian women writers are not far behind their western counterparts in carving a niche for their story-telling abilities. The focus of most of the women writers in India has been on the predicament of the women in the changing or emerging socio-economic scenario of a primarily male-dominated society.Feminism has always been used as an important tool to analyse the issues of women. As a philosophy feminism opposes women’s subordination in the family and the society. Hence it challenges patriarchal thought social organisation and control mechanism. Feminism is an ideological product of certain economic and social conditions. The strong feminist intent in the writings of women writers is of course a delightful manifestation of the postcolonial and postmodern Indian psyche and sensibility.
