Sri Lanka is rich in its aquatic resources. Hundred and three (103) Rivers generate from the central mountainous massive of Sri Lanka and flows radially around the country except to Jaffna peninsula which is devoid of river basins. Bolgoda ecosystem is a unique system which is situated in the Western province of Sri Lanka which consist of two lakes namely North and South Bolgoda Lakes connected by the Bolgoda River with two feeder channels and its associated wetland. Rainfall plays the major role in the fluctuation of bio-chemical status of the water quality of the ecosystem.
