It is a multifaceted phenomenon with combined effects of social familial and psychological factors. It is a behavior whose manifestation depends upon the complex drug-individualsociety relationship and which is deeply rooted in the socio-economic-cultural fabric of the society. To understand the concept of drug addiction it is foremost important to learn the meaning of a drug. This chapter systematically deals with the terminologies concepts and theories related to drug addiction.</span></p>
