The study includes geological pedological and hydro-chemical investigations in Purna River Basin (PRB) Maharashtra Central India. Various neotectonic events and their impacts on Quaternary sedimentation were studied. Origin of salinity in the groundwater from part of PRB was studied using hydro-chemical and stable isotope analyses. Also evaluated the irrigation suitability of PRB groundwater. It consists of seven chapters viz.i. Introduction ii. Analytical Techniques iii. Soils:Characterization and Classification iv.Chemical and Isotopic Groundwater Hydrology v. Implications of Neotectonics on Quaternary Sedimentation and Pedogenesis vi.Discussion and vii. Conclusions. Soils are studied with special reference to sodicity distribution morphological- chemical- geochemical- and mineralogical characterization their problems and potentials. Groundwater is investigated with reference to ionic distribution quality with special emphasize on causative factors for salinity. An attempt is also made to explore the suitability for irrigation. An inter-relationship among soil water and reactivated tectonics are discussed with special reference to paleoclimatic conditions.
