Impressions of the Implementation of the PMAQ in Petr��polis Rio de Janeiro

After graduating in nursing I had the opportunity to work as a management consultant in a municipality of Baixada Fluminense where I observed the great difficulties that arose when it came to improving access and quality in primary care indicating this as a cause for the large number of users who were directed to secondary and tertiary care. Soon after entering the Professional Masters Course in Family Health I participated in the 2nd cycle of the National Programme for Improving Access and Quality in Primary Care (PMAQ). As I had only experienced the management side of this issue I realized at that moment the chance to monitor the professionals who work directly in primary care imbued with the intention to improve access and quality of services offered. Through the preparation of the research project I glimpsed the possibility of writing about how these professionals are implementing this program of the Ministry of Health. To carry out the work I followed the line of reasoning that permeates the PMAQ/AB and deepened the study of the topic through literature review.
