Improved Simplified Methods for Effective Seismic Analysis and Design

The research objectives presented in this study are relevant and of significant interest to both the academic and design communities. Some aspects of the research work that I consider to be original and particularly valuable include: - Review of existing CAN/CSA-S6-06 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code damping coefficients (B values) for isolated bridges and the proposal of modified values for eastern (ENA) and western (WNA) regions (Chapter 3). - Development and application of an energy based (E-R-µ) method to predict the response of isolated bridges. (Chapters 8 and 9). - Introduction of a dual-level seismic protection approach for isolated and damped bridges (Chapter 10).
