Rick grew up in the small town of Warrenville Ill. in the 1950s. Every day of Rick's childhood was an adventure and a lesson in survival. His innocent escapades illustrate the freedom joy and frustration of a rapidly changing small town America. His grandfathers passed down traditional survival skills that Rick would carry with him throughout his lifetime. As Rick learned about family farming hunting fishing foraging and fast cars he developed set of values that were unshakable. Little did he know that his experiences were preparing him for a war he never wanted to go to and would never fully return from. Rick left for Vietnam vowing not to die.
