Inclusive education for children with intellectual disabilities

Special education is not limited to a traditional teaching process but also aims to psychologically and socially rehabilitate people with special needs providing them with the skills they need to integrate into society.This requires investment by governments and educational institutions in the Arab world in the in-service training of teachers the provision of specialized pedagogical programs and the development of a suitable infrastructure.The current challenges facing the special education sector in the Arab world call for a radical change in educational policies to take better account of the needs of this category and to guarantee equal educational opportunities for all children whatever their ability. International statistics show that around 50% of children with disabilities are not enrolled in school compared with only 13% of their non-disabled peers(1).Through this book we have attempted to address several aspects of inclusive education.
