INCORPORATION OF ALTERNATIVE CALCIUM CARBONATE IN ASPHALT MIXTURE

About The Book

This research aims to seek environmental alternatives techniques for improving the quality and performance of asphalt sidewalks. To this end we propose the incorporation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) obtained by the reuse of eggshells to the asphalt binder in order to improve the properties of this material for the production of more resistant asphalt coatings in addition to combating the waste of materials and to reduce the exploitation of natural resources and the reduction of liabilities in landfills. To this end laboratory studies were conducted ranging from the characterization of the modifier element (alternative mineral filler) as well as the physical and rheological characteristics of the modified asphalt binder. The results obtained from this study showed that the alternative mineral filler produced from eggshells has a good potential to improve the physical and rheological characteristics of the asphalt binder CAP 50-70 as well as to increase the stability and tensile strength and reduce the creep of asphalt mixtures.
