Indices of Library and Information Science Publications

Over several decades the quality of libraries has been described in terms of both the quality and quantity of their collections. Thus collection development is both the strength and the bane of libraries and the common language of librarians.The indices including the size types physical quality scope currency and relevance of Library and Information Science publications especially those written by librarians and the extent of availability of those publications in selected academic libraries in Nigeria has continued to be a subject of debate among librarians and faculty. This work was carried out to determine the extent of the quality and quantity of these publications within a ten year period (2002 - 20012) and also measure the extent of the availability of the publications in the selected libraries. The study presents a detailed research report of the indices of the relevant publications in relationship with the extent of their availability in the selected libraries.
