Induced variation in tomato for heat stress condition

About The Book

In the present work screened 113 germplasm lines and isolated genotypes CO3 Arka Meghali (large fruit genotypes) and EC-521038 and EC-24296 (small fruit genotypes) promising for heat stress and subjected for induced mutagenesis using gamma rays and EMS. Fixed LD50 value at 350 Gy and 0.30% for EMS respectively. Higher frequency of chlorophyll mutants (0.60%) and viable mutant frequency (6.25%) was observed in EMS treating Arka Meghali followed by CO3 (0.35% & 5.14%). The viable mutants MC-14 MC-27 MC-20 MC-83 MC-46 MC-136 MA-41 MA-18 ME-516 ME-518 ME-12 ME-519 ME-22 ME-504 M-18 ME-217 ME-212 ME-220 ME-221 ME-230 and M-6 had larger fruit size (>60 g) high yield (>1900-2200g/plant) and high lycopene content (7-7.6 mg/ 100g) scoping to develop commercial varieties after attaining homogeneity in M4 and subsequent generations. The mutant MC-62 and MA-47 had high yield with yellow fruit colour and ME-13 ME-16 ME-30 M-3 and M-23 mutants having high lycopene content with low yield potential have bright scope for development of breeding lines for future studies related to fruit ripening mechanism in tomato.
