About The Book

The main objective of the book is to develop a standard IDR (Institutional Digital Repository) model and to formulate a policy document on the basis of international standards and available best practices for designing and developing FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) based Web-enabled IDR systems. It is well known that building technological infrastructure for IDRs is not difficult but the hard parts to repository building are deciding on the policies such as archiving contents coverage and quality copyright and licensing embargo management multilingual retrieval perpetual preservation approaches etc. These problems are mainly threefold: technical (hardware and software) socio-technical (administrative policy issue) and cultural (social acceptance advocacy etc). This book is an endeavour in the aforesaid direction and aims to act as a guiding tool for policy makers and administrators in the domain of institutional digital repositories.
