Institutional motivation and employee performance is based on three objectives namely; namely the perception of employees on motivation; the role of motivation and the relationship between motivation and performance. Institutions use various motivational ways in motivating its employees: like intrinsic and extrinsic rewards: to facilitate them in the institution to carry out their work as assigned; to retain a successful employer - employee relationship; to efficiently and effectively support employees performance; facilitate employees’ to solve their personal problems. On the other hand the Public institution is distinct in its character than private institutions in terms of work context and job characteristics. A preference for intrinsic rewards over extrinsic rewards also distinguishes public institution employees from private ones. However a Fulfillment of altruistic needs is not enough to satisfy public institution employees; other factors determine job satisfaction. Still there is a relationship between motivation and performance. It is recommended that managers should take part in advocating for the provision of motivational needs through adjusting the labour laws.
