<P>This book argues that African film audiences in colonial Kenya were not passive recipients of British cultural programs created to &ldquo;teach&rdquo; and &ldquo;civilize&rdquo; them. Rather they rejected mediocre films and actively participated in the cinema discourse that brought about changes in cinema production.</P>
