INTEGRAL HUMANISM AND DEVELOPMENT

The concept of Development has been considered synonymous with economic growth both in Capitalist and Communist systems. They treated development in a narrow sense confining to mere economic growth ignoring all other dimensions of human development. Both capitalism and communism have been deeply influenced by the Cartesian -Newtonian reductionist concept and have completely broken away from the traditional organic view of development. Both are essentially based on hard technology and big business and are products of semitic faith. Both capitalism and communism are obsessed with undifferenti-ated growth which has been well brought out by Fritjof Capra way back in 1983 in the following words One of the most outstanding character-istics of today's economics both capitalist and communist is an obses-sion with growth. He further adds that the Global obsession with growth has resulted in a remarkable similarity between the capitalist and com-munist economies... both are dedicated to industrial growth hard tech-nology with increasing centralised and bureaucratic control whether by the State or by the so called 'private' multi-national corporations. The universal addiction to growth and expansion is becoming stronger than ideologies.
